    Program Director - AAS in Occupational Therapy Assistant Degree Program

    Cleveland University-Kansas City is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Program Director within its Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant degree program. The duties of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Director are both instructional and supervisory in nature, encompassing all courses and programs assigned. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Director will be responsible for providing leadership in the development of goals and quality instruction within the program.


      Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree from an institution that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
    • Must be an initially certified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant that is licensed in the State of Kansas or has the ability to become licensed in the State of Kansas.
    • Must have five (5) years of experience in the field of occupational therapy, administrative or supervisory experience.
    • Must have one (1) year of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities.

    JOB SUMMARY & SKILLS NECESSARY: Occupational therapy assistants work under the direction of, and in collaboration with occupational therapists to provide rehabilitative services to persons with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments. The COTA is responsible for implementing occupational therapy treatment plans, and completing pertinent documentation under the supervision, and in partnership with the OTR. The ultimate goal is to improve clients’ quality of life and ability to perform daily activities. The COTA assists with helping individuals gain independence in their daily lives by implementing interventions such as: daily living training, adaptive equipment training, physical agent modalities, therapeutic exercises, or other therapeutic activities. The COTA also has responsibilities related to the daily operations and functions of the occupational therapy department.


    Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy assistant education program and successful completion of fieldwork requirements


    Certification or Registration if required: Passed the NBCOT  national certification examination for certified occupational therapy assistants. Must hold and maintain a current certificate/license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in the state of Kansas


    Professional Requirements: Must maintain current licensure and certification with the National Board Certification of Occupational Therapy and Kansas Board of Healing Arts.  Must maintain current CPR/First Aid certification.

    We serve children ages 5-21 with multiple disabilities in classroom and group home environments. This person will be responsible for creating, implementing and training IEP goals in support of students’ overall programs. We work closely in an interdisciplinary approach. Prefer experience working with students who have multiple disabilities with activities of daily living, fine motor development and functional outcomes.
