    • Earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, OTD, EdD)

    • Teaching, scholarship, and service to the department and the university; collaborative teaching with existing instructor of record including laboratory instruction, planning and student evaluation for course content areas such as foundational practice skills, mental health, geriatrics, physical rehabilitation (kinesiology, orthopedics, neurorehabilitation, and physical agent modalities),
    • Serving as a clinical research mentor for group student research projects and engaging in a research program; Student advisement.

    JOB SUMMARY & SKILLS NECESSARY: Occupational therapy assistants work under the direction of, and in collaboration with occupational therapists to provide rehabilitative services to persons with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments. The COTA is responsible for implementing occupational therapy treatment plans, and completing pertinent documentation under the supervision, and in partnership with the OTR. The ultimate goal is to improve clients’ quality of life and ability to perform daily activities. The COTA assists with helping individuals gain independence in their daily lives by implementing interventions such as: daily living training, adaptive equipment training, physical agent modalities, therapeutic exercises, or other therapeutic activities. The COTA also has responsibilities related to the daily operations and functions of the occupational therapy department.


    Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy assistant education program and successful completion of fieldwork requirements


    Certification or Registration if required: Passed the NBCOT  national certification examination for certified occupational therapy assistants. Must hold and maintain a current certificate/license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in the state of Kansas
